Nov 10, 2022
On the afternoon of November 10th, Halfway was alerted for a Structure Fire on Box 26-10 at 17404 Maple Leaf Court. Crews arrived on Side Alpha with a center of the row Towne House with nothing evident. After completion of a 360, Smoke on Side Charlie was discovered with a Hot Rear Door. Once Assistant Chief 26 confirmed they had a working fire and requested the Safety Assignment.
Firefighters off E261 stretched an Attack Line and began Fire Attack from the Alpha Side on Division 1 as an additional crew made entry to search Division 2. Interior found a working fire in the kitchen and were able to conduct a quick knockdown followed by a quick primary search of Division 1. Both interior crews reported their primary searches clear.
Firefighters remained on the scene checking adjacent homes for extension from the fire. Crews found residual smoke in both neighboring structures on both sides of the main fire building, but no extension. With that being confirmed, Command reported Fire Out and requested an FM to the scene. Firefighters remained on the scene ventilating all three affected structures. Once the adjacent homes were metered and declared safe, those residents were allowed to re-enter their homes.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. State Fire Marshal’s were called in to investigate the cause. The point of origin was confirmed to be in the kitchen, but the exact cause has not been released. It was confirmed that no fowl play was suspected. The occupants are currently receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. Halfway received assistance from crews from Williamsport Fire & EMS, Hagerstown Fire Department, Funkstown Fire Company, Community Rescue Services, and Washington County Emergency Support Services.
