Halfway Responds To Chimney Fire in Halfway
MAR 5, 2021
On the afternoon of March 5th, Halfway was alerted for a Chimney Fire on Pin Oak Road in Oak Ridge. Halfway crews arrived to find smoke coming from the Chimney but no visible flames. Tower 26’s crew arrived and split their crew, sending two to check the interior of the residence while the second crew laddered the roof to inspect the chimney.
During the investigation, interior crews found light smoke throughout the residence. The smoke was traced back to an access panel used to clean out the ash buildup in the chimney. Firefighters quickly discovered a small fire that was contained to the chimney and worked to clean out the excess creosote and ash buildup. Firefighters quickly had the fire under control and were able to keep it from spreading. Firefighters checked the residence thoroughly and confirmed no extension before crews cleared the scene that afternoon.
Between the quick actions of the local neighbor’s noticing the smoke and our crew’s quick response, damages were able to be kept to a minimum. Tower 26 responded with a crew of 6 and received assistance from Hagerstown’s First Hagerstown Hose Company and The Funkstown Volunteer Fire Company.
