Halfway Responds On Box 10-7

On the morning of March 16th, crews from Halfway were alerted for the Engine and then the Tower to assist on a Basement Fire on Box 10-7 at 11029 Plumwood Circle. Units due on the initial box responded for a reported Chimney Fire. Funkstown arrived to find smoke in the residence with a fire in the basement. Command called for the Safety Assignment after discovering a working fire in the ceiling of the basement. We were then alerted at 10:55 hours and responded with Engine 261. Our Tower was later alerted at 11:19 hours when command requested additional units to assist due to the size of the residence and the need for a second aerial on the scene.

A bulk of the fire was contained to the basement with some extension in the walls extending up to the first floor area. Emergency crews were committed for several hours on the call that eventual went to Two Alarms to bring in additional personnel. Firefighters had to conduct an extensive search of the entire house opening multiple void spaces to check for further extension due to the construction of the house. Over 70 emergency workers were on the scene helping during the incident. Engine 261 and Tower 26 were committed until around 13:40 hours when they were released from the scene.

Investigators from the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office responded out to incident that Tuesday. The fire caused an estimated $85,000 in damages between the structure and its contents. The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined and currently remains under investigation. No injuries were reported during the incident and the family was not displaced and had no need for assistance.
